As we approach the final day of the challenge, I want to leave you with some lingering thoughts.

For so many of us when we think about our wildest goals and ambitions – we can be paralysed by fear. We can think we’re not worthy or capable of working towards our dreams.

You never lose by loving. You only lose by holding back.

If you have a passion that you love and you want to become great at it than you need to go all in with it. You’ve just spent the past 49 days working on a goal. It doesn’t have to stop now. Use that passion you have for your goal, the intensity you’ve experienced as you worked hard on it – and bring it to the next level. If you hold back, don’t push yourself to achieving that dream – at the end of the day you are the only one who loses out.

Day 46 – #50DaysMotivation

Do you allocate enough time for tasks? Or do you say something will take an hour to complete when you will actually have it done in 5 minutes? Today we are going to look into time management.

If you tend to waste your time because of mismanagement of your day you need to start keeping a diary or using an app that will help you know what you need to be doing all day and where your time is being wasted. If you are a creative person, this might sound like hell. But even if you just do this for a week so you can identify where time mismanagement is occurring, it will help you complete tasks that you have either been putting off or unable to find the fit in.

Lost time is never found again

Lost time is the biggest creativity killer because you will never be able to complete your work if you can’t find the time.

An app like the Pomodoro app will help you assign a certain amount of time to tasks and help guide your time to get things done. Or even just a reminder app will help you remember tasks you need to do through out the day. I like an app called Things which is basically a smart to do list. You move things into sections called Today, Next and Someday. What I like about this is that you can label tasks with things such as ‘high energy’ or ‘low energy’, so no matter how you are feeling you can find things to do. I’d highly recommend trying it out and seeing can you cut down on your lost time.

Day 40 – #50DaysMotivation

When we feel stressed or sad it can be so easy to slip into a funk. When things get hard or we feel fatigued, it can be so difficult to motivate ourselves for our goal.

I feel glorious

Today I want you to look into the mirror and reaffirm that you feel glorious. It might seem silly and you might truly feel like the exact opposite but you need to feed your mind with the thoughts that you feel great in order to change it.

Maybe you had a tough day at work and the last thing you want to do is tell yourself that you feel glorious. But if you sit there and wallow, guess what you’re not going to work on your goal. Instead you’ll be at a pity party for one. And no good ideas ever originated from there.

So throughout the day remind yourself that you are glorious because- you truly are!

Day 34 – #50DaysMotivation

I’ve talked about the importance of getting up early and working on your goals. Today I want to talk about one of the best things you can incorporate into your morning routine – meditation and mindfulness.

I know when most people wake up, the natural reaction is to just hit snooze and turn over. I’m here to implore you to use that time to meditate. Even to begin with you don’t have to get out of bed, just grab your phone and a pair of headphone and pop them in while you’re still half asleep and press play on a guided meditation app like Headspace or Calm. Taking those 10 minutes in the morning, could completely change how you are going to tackle the day.

Meditate and unleash magic

Meditation has many benefits – it helps you deal with stress, increases creativity, you help develop your intuition and decreases tension in your body.

For the next week I am going to give you a set of mantras that I want you to use in conjunction with daily meditation. Mantras are a great way for improving your confidence in yourself as well as helping develop a belief in what you are capable of.

Day 33 – #50DaysMotivation

As you work towards your goal, hopefully you should be seeing some small successes. As we’ve spoken about before it is important to break down your goals into smaller pieces so that you regularly have wins that help you carry your motivation through to the end of the goal.

The people around you may have started to notice these successes. Most will likely be happy for you, maybe even proud as you strive to reach your goal. However there will be people who will not be happy for you. They maybe jealous of how you are making your dreams a reality. They might be envious that you suddenly have this purpose in your life and they are squandering their time. They maybe be anxious that you are becoming a new successful person and feel threatened by this. Whatever it is, there will be haters.

I often think that “hurt people, hurt people”. Think about it for a moment. Those people are obviously hurting on the inside if they see your success though mean-spirited eyes. Today I want to help you deal with the haters.

Remember no one can make you feel inferior without your consent

If someone says something mean to you – maybe it’s an anonymous troll on the internet or it can be a close loved one – I want you to just ignore it. I know that sounds easier than it actually is, but there is little point in putting your energy into something negative. No good will come of it for you. If you engage in their bitterness, suddenly you are speaking their language which is full of negativity and hate. Why bring that into your life? You are focusing on being a better person – becoming consumed by the hate they spew does not help your cause one bit.

If it’s an internet troll just block them ASAP. Don’t engage!!! That’s what they want – that’s what they crave! They wouldn’t spend their time trolling people if they were continually ignored. They would just give up. So ignore them!

If it’s a close loved one – that is more difficult. But you can still deal with it, without it impacting on your mental state. When they say something negative to you, just smile (as much as it kills you inside!) and say “I appreciate that’s your opinion, but I’m happy with how I’m living my life”. And leave the situation. Whether it’s walking away or putting down the phone – you need to get out of there. I know this will be difficult but if you engage in an argument with them – nothing good comes from it.

So today’s task is to identify “trolls” in your life and start preparing yourself for how you will interact with them when the trolling starts.

Day 30 – #50DaysMotivation

Today is the last in the mini series of overcoming procrastination. Today we are going to eliminate our distractions.

For a lot of people, they don’t even realise they are procrastinating. They are just spending their time doing what they’ve always done. Well these mindless distractions are stopping you from realising your goals. So here are three ways to eliminate the distractions.

1) Delete time suck apps – If you can find 20 minutes a day to play Candy Crush or Piano Tiles, you have just found an extra 20 minutes to work on your goals daily. You might protest and say that you only play those things when you are waiting for someone to arrive or on the way home on the train from work. Well why don’t you listen to a podcast and learn something that’ll help towards your goal? There is so much free knowledge out there – don’t waste your time collecting free imaginary coins or whatever! Use the time to become an even better version of you!

2) Rearrange your phone – If deleting time suck apps is a step too far, then move them off the home screen of your phone. One of the best things I ever did to help deal with my procrastination tendencies was to move time-suck apps to the 3rd or 4th screen on my phone. Now when I check my phone I’m not tempted by all these mindless distractions. Having to go find the apps, is a useful deterrent and helps me stay focused. Now any games on my phone are buried deep in the main screen. Even moving apps like Facebook or Twitter can help your productivity immensely. Wherever you are wasting time, move them off the main screen.

3) Block websites – If you find yourself mindlessly surfing the internet, you need an app like https://selfcontrolapp.com/ This app will block websites or only allow you to visit certain sites. So if you have a deadline but find yourself tempted to procrastinate on Facebook or Netflix – this is what you need!

Don’t find fault, find a remedy

Hopefully the past five days have helped you identify how you procrastinate and how to overcome it. When working towards your goal, the more you can focus, the quicker you will get there.

Day 29 – #50DaysMotivation

Today is day 4 of our strategies to stop procrastination. Hopefully you have started using some of the strategies to help you make progress towards your goal. Today we are going to talk about the strategy that will help you stay consistent.

Many times we start a new habit and we manage to keep doing it for a few days, however we soon start to slack and silently but definitively falls off the radar and we go back to bad habits.

Most of our problems are because we act without thinking or we keep thinking without acting

In order to beat procrastination and stay consistent you need to write down your to-do list for the day, your daily goals and deadlines. The very act of writing it down will signal to your brain that you want to get shit done today! It will also serve as a reminder throughout the day about where you need to be and what to focus your energy on. Most to-do list apps can send you notifications during the day so you have no excuse for not hitting targets.

When a notification pops up, don’t ignore it. Even if you just spend 2 minutes starting the task, you are 2 minutes more advanced than you were at the start of the day. I know it can be easy to say that you don’t have to write everything down and that you can remember it, but you simply can’t. Your brain has millions of things to process every day, so give it a break and just write down your to-do list in the morning or before you go to bed.

Having intention is the best way to start your day and the only way you will follow through with your goals.!

Day 28 – #50DaysMotivation

Today we are going to talk about the 7 minute rule. If procrastination is a major vice for you – this might just be the strategy to help you overcome it!

From now on, next time you feel you are procrastinating from something I want you to just start and do 7 minutes of the thing – whatever it is.

So if you are putting off working out, I want you to just work out for 7 minutes.

The best way to get things done is to simply begin

If you are procrastinating from working on your next blog post, or writing your paper for college, just start writing for 7 minutes.

Set a timer beside you so your brain can see exactly how much time you have left in the task. And give yourself full permission to stop after 7 minutes. The only thing you must remember is that you give the task in front of you your full attention for those 7 minutes. So don’t start the timer and then spend 3 minutes filling your water bottle or putting on your laptop and checking your email. When you start the timer you must be ready to start the task.

The best thing about the 7 minute rule is that nine times out of ten, you’ll find that when the timer goes off you will keep working on the task. Why? Because just starting a task is often the hardest part. Once you begin, you’ll often find that what you thought was this big intimidating task actually isn’t that bad. Or else the 7 minutes have started momentum and it’s easier to continue on while your brain is now focused on the task.

What I love about the 7 minute rule is that it doesn’t matter how much you get done in the 7 minutes, it’s helping foster a better habit of just getting things started rather than putting them off. If you embrace this strategy you’ll soon see that you are quickly making more progress towards your goals every day.

Day 25 – #50DaysMotivation

As we come to the halfway point of the challenge, it can be tempting to quit if you haven’t made the progress towards your goal that you had hoped.

Today we are going to concentrate on the feelings you’d have if you didn’t continue on the path to reach your goal.

Pain is nothing compared to what it feels like to quit.

When you made a goal for yourself – there was obviously something in your life that you wanted to change. It may have been your health, appearance, becoming calmer or more organised. It may have been to set up a business or to become more social. Whatever it was, it was gnawing at you for long enough that you decided that you had to take action.

If you are beginning to lose the intensity that you once had for your goal I want you to sit down and imagine what your life will be like when you get to your goal. As you imagine I want you to either video you talking about it or write it down somewhere. Fill it with as much detail as you can. Talk about everything that has changed, how your typical day goes, what emotions you are experiencing – everything.

You don’t need to share this exercise with anyone but keep it somewhere that you can refer to it over the next few days when interest in your goal wanes.  So it’s halfway through the challenge! If you have begun to lose motivation – recommit to your goal today!

Day 24 – #50DaysMotivation

I’m a believer of faking it til you make it! Why? Because it’s worked for me.

When I was younger and took part in competitive debating, I would get really nervous. Just thinking about delivering my remarks and taking questions from the floor used to give me major butterflies. However if anyone asked me how I felt, I would always say “I love debating, I can’t wait to take the podium”. This confidence helped me feel ready when debate day game. And it also gave confidence to my team that I was ready and that I had their backs. Even though inside my stomach was doing flips!

Act the way that you want to feel

Sometimes you just have to act the way you want to feel and eventually you will actually feel that way. Today I want you to look inside yourself and see what aspects of you, you would like to change. When you wake up in the morning, what’s the first emotion you want to experience? Make a list of the feelings that would best describe how you would like to feel daily – happier, calmer, confident – and pick the one that you feel is the most important.

In a couple of days time we’ll work on mantras for you to say throughout the day that will help you embrace this new mindset.
